2024-25: Continuing Success with a Young Team
In its fifth year, the GHS Math Team continued its string of successes in competitions throughout the year as the hard work and dedication of team members paid off in a big way!

OCTM Contest
An Impressive Five OHMIO Qualifiers!
Yingling Y., Owen W., Owen R., Callum S., and Harrison M. finished in the top 100 in the state, enabling invitations to the prestigious OHMIO (Ohio HS Math Invitational Olympiad) contest held on November 2, 2024 at Capital University. While no one placed at OHMIO this year, with four sophomores and one junior participating, this early-season contest provided valuable experience that helped sharpen our skills for our later-season contests.
Several of these students are also members of the Ohio ARML Team that will participate in the national ARML competition in June 2025.
AMC 10/12
Another Year, Another AIME Qualifier!
For the fifth consecutive year, the GHS Math Team produced an AIME (invitational round after AMC 10/12) qualifier! Congratulations to Owen W. for qualifying for the AIME and continuing our streak!
Ohio Math League
6th in State!
After last year’s 4th place finish, GHS confirmed its status as a major math powerhouse by finishing in 6th place in Overall School Rankings (with no divisions based on school size) and 1st in the Region. Compared to Columbus area schools, only Columbus Academy (2nd overall) and Thomas Worthington (5th) ranked higher — GHS outperformed Dublin Jerome, Dublin Coffman, and Upper Arlington.
Individually, Kevin G., Harrison M., and Owen W. finished tied for 24th, while Pranjoli S. placed 43rd. (Final 24-25 Results)
Looking at the participating schools, Granville is something of an outlier — surrounded in the rankings by high-enrollment public schools and elite private institutions. The only comparably-sized public school near the top is the perennial math powerhouse Revere High School.

University of Dayton Math Contest
Swept 1st and 2nd Place
Returning as defending champions to the University of Dayton Math Contest, the GHS Math Team fielded two three-person teams, each with a unique team name. The “Pi-Rates” (Yingling Y., Pranjoli S., Harrison M.) won 1st place, and the “Kev-Integers” (Owen R., Kevin G., Seth W.) took 2nd place. The competition included the local powerhouse Dayton Regional STEM School (DRSS). This marks GHS’s second consecutive year 1st place finish.
The University of Dayton made the event especially enjoyable with T-shirts, pizza lunch, and an engaging lecture by a U of D math professor.

Arete Lab’s Math Madness
Due to a shortage of teams, instead of its tournament format, Math Madness simply used a round-robin format. The GHS Math Team had a strong showing against large public schools and exclusive private schools from around the country.

Rocket City Math League
34th Nationally (Out of 147 Teams)
In a field of 147 teams from around the world (but mostly from the U.S.), the GHS Math Team finished 34th. Although this does not match the 9th place finish of the 2022-23 team, GHS still placed ahead of some major math & science schools and large public schools.
Purple Comet
3rd and 7th in State (Out of 25 Teams)
Due to having eight participants and a six-member team limit, GHS split into two four-person teams for the Purple Comet Math Contest. The teams placed 3rd and 7th place in Ohio in the High School 1-1200 Enrollment Division. Although we did not repeat last year’s 1st place finish (with a full team of six), this was an impressive result given that both teams competed at 2/3 capacity! (Official Results)

Looking Ahead
For 25-26, the GHS Math Team looks to build upon our success and take on even more competitions, both locally and online, as we continue to challenge ourselves against the brightest and best around the country.
