2023-24: A Magical Season, Best Ever in School History
In its fourth year, the GHS Math Team grew in its membership numbers and had its best season in school history. It was the result of lots of hard work and dedication by our team members as they collected awards and accolades throughout the entire year!

OCTM Contest
An Unbelievable Seven OHMIO Qualifiers!
The GHS Math Team had Luke H., Yingling Y., Seth W., Kevin G., Callum S., Harrison M., and Owen W. finish in the top 100 in the state, enabling them to qualify for the prestigious OHMIO (Ohio HS Math Invitational Olympiad) contest held on November 4, 2023 at Capital University. At OHMIO, Luke H. placed 6th in the Individual round and 8th Overall.
Luke H. and other Math Team members are also members of the Ohio ARML Team that will participate in the national ARML competition in June 2024.
AMC 10/12
Repeat AIME Qualifier!
For the fourth consecutive year, senior Luke H. qualified for the AIME (invitational round after AMC 10/12). He obtained a high score on the AIME, but fell just short of qualifying for the prestigious USAMO, which is used to choose the team that represents the U.S. at the International Math Olympiad (IMO).
Ohio Math League
4th in State!
GHS showed itself to be a major math powerhouse by finishing tied for 4th place in Overall School Rankings (no divisions based on school size) and tied for 1st place in Region with Sycamore HS (enrollment 2X that of GHS). GHS also finished higher than all public schools in the Columbus area, including Dublin Jerome, Dublin Coffman, and Upper Arlington.
Individually, Luke H. finished 4th, Harrison M. finished 15th, and Owen W. placed 22nd. (Final 23-24 Results)
Looking at the participating schools, Granville is an outlier of sorts as the rankings are filled with high-enrollment public schools and elite private schools. The only comparable public school to Granville in terms of size is the math powerhouse Revere High School.

University of Dayton Math Contest
Captured 1st and 3rd Place, Beat Defending Champ
Participating in our first official in-person tournament ever (with the exception of the invitational OHMIO tournament), the GHS Math Team fielded four 3-person teams for the University of Dayton Math Contest, each with unique team names. The GHS team of “Kev-Integers” (Owen R., Kevin G., Seth W.) won 1st place, and “Pi Eaters” (Owen W., Harrison M., Yingling Y.) won 3rd place. By taking 1st place, the GHS Math Team finished ahead of the defending champion and local powerhouse Dayton Regional STEM School (DRSS) (2nd place).

Arete Lab’s Math Madness
Due to a shortage of teams, instead of its tournament format, Math Madness simply used a Round Robin format. The GHS Math Team had a strong showing against large public schools and exclusive private schools from around the country.

Rocket City Math League
19th in the nation from 100+ teams
In a field of 139 teams from around the world (but mostly from the U.S.), the GHS Math Team finished 19th. Although this was not as high as the 22-23 team’s 9th place finish, this ranking was the highest among all Ohio teams, including powerhouse Revere HS at 29th. And once again, GHS finished ahead of some major math & science schools and large public schools.

Purple Comet
1st in State (out of 25 teams)
In our second time participating in the Purple Comet math contest, the GHS Math Team finished tied for 1st place in Ohio in the High School 1-1200 Enrollment Division with 19 out of 30 correct. GHS tied defending champion Columbus Academy and improved from last year’s 4th place result. (Official Results)

Looking Ahead
For 24-25, the GHS Math Team looks to build upon our success and participate in even more contests as we face the brightest and best around the country. We will continue to look for new competitions and challenges locally and online!
