2025-26: Upperclassmen Lead Continued Success
In its sixth year, led by a strong group of upperclassmen, the GHS Math Team once again proved that a smaller public school can compete with some of the strongest math programs in Ohio.

OCTM Contest
Five GHS Students Qualify for OHMIO!
Yingling Y., Owen R., Kevin G, Harrison M. and Owen W. finished in the top 100 in the state, earning invitations to the prestigious OHMIO (Ohio HS Math Invitational Olympiad) contest held on November 8, 2025 at Capital University. While no GHS student placed at OHMIO this year, this early-season contest provided valuable experience that helped sharpen our skills for our later-season contests.
Yingling and Harrison are also members of the Ohio ARML Team that will participate in the national ARML competition in June 2026.

Close Calls This Year — Looking Ahead to Next Year
Although we did not have an AIME qualifier this year, several students came close. With another year of preparation and experience, we are optimistic that GHS will be well-positioned to have one or more AIME qualifiers next year.
Ohio Math League
4th in State!
After last year’s 6th place finish, GHS confirmed its status as a major math powerhouse by finishing in 4th place in Overall School Rankings (with no divisions based on school size) and 1st in the Region for the third consecutive year. Compared to Columbus area schools, only Columbus Academy (2nd overall) and Dublin Jerome (3rd) ranked higher. GHS outperformed Worthington, Dublin Coffman, and Upper Arlington.
Individually, Jack H., Harrison M., and Owen R. finished tied for 15th, Seth W. placed 21st, Owen W. placed 26th, and Kevin G. and Callum S. finished tied for 50th. (Final 25-26 Results)
Looking at the participating schools, Granville is something of an outlier — surrounded in the rankings by high-enrollment public schools and elite private institutions. The only comparably-sized public school near the top is the perennial math powerhouse Revere High School.
University of Dayton Math Contest
Miss Us?
Due to the State Science Olympiad tournament held the same day, our team was unable to attend the University of Dayton Math Contest and defend our two-year champion streak.
However, we plan to attend next year with multiple teams!
Our students always enjoy this fun competition that also includes T-shirts, pizza lunch, and an engaging lecture by a U of D math professor.
Arete Lab’s Math Madness
Math Madness is a 100% online, team-based competition that allows schools from around the country to compete in weekly matches. The usual format includes qualifying rounds followed by bracket-style tournament rounds, but this year, due to a shortage of teams, Math Madness used a round-robin format. The GHS Math Team had a strong showing against large public schools and highly competitive private schools from around the country.
Rocket City Math League
89th Nationally (Out of 156 Teams)
In a field of 156 teams from around the world, but mostly from the United States, the GHS Math Team finished 89th nationally.
Although this result was somewhat disappointing by the high standards we have set for ourselves, including a 9th-place national finish by the 2022–23 team, Rocket City was an early-season contest in November and gave us valuable lessons that helped us improve in the second half of the season.
Purple Comet
3rd in State (Out of 25 Teams)
The GHS Team finished 3rd in Ohio for the Purple Comet Math Contest in the High School 1-1200 Enrollment Division. Although we did not repeat the 1st place finish from two years ago, the team competed well and fell just short of finishing in the top two (Official Results). Looking Ahead
For 2026–27, the GHS Math Team will have one of its most talented senior classes since the team began. We hope that our seniors can mentor a new group of young mathletes while also building on their impressive track record of success by continuing to challenge themselves against the brightest and best students from around Ohio and across the country.
